David Sheehan
Founder, President, and CEO Nucleus Biologics
David Sheehan is the Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Nucleus Biologics, a San Diego–based biotechnology company and the only Excipient GMP-certified manufacturer of custom cell culture media and buffers for the cell and gene therapy industry. Under his leadership, the company has launched digital platforms including NB-Lux™ AI for streamlined media and buffer ordering and CRAIC™ for AI-driven formulation recommendations, as well as innovative equipment like Krakatoa®, the first 500L pod-based media and buffer manufacturing system.
Prior to founding Nucleus Biologics, Mr. Sheehan held senior leadership roles across the life sciences sector. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Volcano Corporation, a publicly traded medical device company that was acquired by Philips for approximately $1.2 billion. He also held CEO and senior leadership positions at companies such as Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Haemonetics, Digirad, and other organizations within the medtech and life sciences space.
Mr. Sheehan earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. His background blends technical expertise, operational excellence, and strategic leadership with a focus on enabling reproducible science and advancing technologies that support therapeutic development.
